A great cover by YouTube singer Megan Lee. She releases a cover of “I Will” which is originally by Christina Aguilera.

The first thing i do when i wake up is….Go pee… Then check both my phones to see what calls I missed, because I have to turn them on silent as a result of business calls at all hours of the night from Asia and the East Coast.
The last thing i do before i sleep is… Drink a protein shake and scarf down a Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger… Actually, it may sound cliché, but I have to say a prayer to God before bed. I have so much to be thankful for, and without Him I am nothing.
My most prized possession is…My songbooks. I have stacks of notebooks with all the songs I’ve written. Sometimes I skim through the lyrics of all the poetry I’ve turned into music, and I don’t even know where some of those concepts and words came from. It’s almost like I was possessed during the process and someone fed me the lyrics and melodies.
My biggest pet peeve is… Mean and selfish people. Some people just go out of their way and expend tons of energy to be mean, and ruin someone’s day. It serves zero purpose in life. I also despise people who are solely out for their own, and contribute nothing positive to society.
The celebrity i would like to meet is… Prince. That man is just pure musical genius. I totally have a man crush on him.
My favorite time of day is...Dinner time! Feeeeed meeeeee…
My ideal date would be…A spontaneous trip somewhere exotic. I’d love to tell a woman that we’re skipping the typical dinner and movie, and that the only thing she needs to bring on our date is a passport. I’ll handle the rest.
My catchphrase would be….Bury your fears, and anything is possible.
The song that should play when i enter the room is… “Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday!” (Friday – Rebecca Black)
The best way to cheer me up when Im down is...Feeeeeeed meeeeee… I’ll eat anything; so long as it’s edible.

Scott Yoshimoto first gained interest in film making as a high school student, inspired by the three filmmakers of Wong Fu Productions: Ted Fu, Philip Wang and Wesley Chen.
A friend of Yoshimoto’s spotted Wong Fu at Life Plaza in Diamond Plaza and immediately called him.
“I asked my friend to tell them I really wanted to meet them and to wait 15 minutes until I got there,” he says.
Delightfully surprised that trio actually waited for him, Yoshimoto was even more shocked to learn that they have heard of him through his short films on YouTube.
“They told me to keep doing what I was doing, because they liked [my videos]. That really inspired me to keep making videos for everyone,” says Yoshimoto. Since meeting Wong Fu, he has stayed connected with them and are now good friends.
The 22-year-old, Japanese American filmmaker and musician took Wong Fu’s advice, and recently graduated from the University of California, Irvine, majoring in Film Media. According to Yoshimoto, however, UCI was not exactly the place he developed his film-making skills.
“All the classes given at UCI are mainly theory classes,” he says. “I had to learn everything on my own.”
Yoshimoto took the initiative and sought out internships, even landing one with MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.” He also created his own projects; the first music video he filmed was for YouTube sensation AJ Rafael’s “My Soldier” in 2009.
With each new project, Yoshimoto’s skills as a filmmaker continue to improve, especially when he compares past projects to his current ones. Yoshimoto has made successful music videos for not only AJ Rafael but for also Kris Mark, afterschoolspecial, Randolph Permejo and Cathy Nguyen.
He also filmed his own music video for his self-written Christmas song “The Gift,” which featured many amazing fellow artists, like AJ Rafael, Andrew Garcia, Cathy Nguyen, Lydia Paek & Ramiele Malubay. Coincidentally, his latest music video was AJ Rafael’s “We Could Happen.”

Not only can he see the progress of his developing skills, but spending time with good friends and having fun while doing what he loves, says Yoshimoto, has been his constant motivation.
“My sets are always fun,” he says. ”I don’t mind fans around as long as they are cooperating.”
As an up-and-coming filmmaker, his experience watching professional filmmakers has also given Yoshimoto more confidence in himself and his own abilities and resources.
“I once went to a Lloyd and The Game music video filming, and they used just one camera,” he says.
Besides his growing film resume, Yoshimoto is also a talented musician. Yoshimoto says he gets his musical talent from his father, who is in the band “Music Company” (along with friend Casey Nishizu’s mother). And his father often composes the music to Yoshimoto’s songs.
His sister, Alexa, is also a singer and started posting videos on YouTube two years ago. She also showed off her talents at Kollaboration Acoustic 5 and wowed the fans with her original music and great voice. Yoshimoto, who despite only having one song cover together with his sister on YouTube, made sure to be in the crowd showing his support on her musical journey.
Making full use of his diverse set of skills, Yoshimoto is currently working on his online musical series, “My Own Show,” which includes self-written music and the music of friends, connecting them together to make a story.
Some fans may complain that there is too much music and not enough written script, but Yoshimoto says, “It’s a musical, the songs tell the story.”
Starting “My Own Show” was his way of expressing his passion for both film and music. Inspired by the TV show “Glee,” Yoshimoto wanted to show his own skills and talents instead of just performing covers of popular songs.
So far, the filmmaker has released five episodes of his series. Episodes One through Four are loosely intertwined, but starting from Episode Five Yoshimoto plans to have a different concept and theme for each episode.
Yoshimoto admits that his filming schedule for “My Own Show” is sometimes sporadic because he has to focus his attention on the music writing process first. Friends Carissa Rae and Casey Nishizu help him on-screen as actors and around filming as assistants; but most of the work is done by Yoshimoto himself.

“Why do I need to choose one over the other?” Yoshimoto replies when we ask whether he would rather be a singer or a filmmaker. And his conviction in pursuing both arts is clear.
Yoshimoto has formed the group “Request Line” with good friends Casey Nishizu and Emily Yoshihara. An EP with Nishizu is currently in the works, and an album of his own is, he hopes, in the near future.
Past internships are clamoring to have him back, but Yoshimoto is determined to create his own career path using all of his passions and abilities. Yoshimoto can sing, he can act, he can write songs and scripts, and he will document it all on film. As a musician and filmmaker, we’re excited to continue seeing him display his amazing talents on-screen and behind the camera.
Be sure to check out Yoshimoto on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Check out his company, MOVeMEDIA PRODUCTIONS on Twitter, Facebook and also on YouTube.

DROKU: At what age did you start singing?
PAUL KIM: I started singing in the 4th grade, when I was a part of a Christian choir. I don’t think anyone really knew I could sing until high school though, when I joined a group and we performed all over California at various venues.
DROKU: How did you get your start as an artist?
PAUL KIM: Honestly, entertainment was just part of something I did in private. It was just a hobby. I just loved singing, dancing, rapping, etc. as a kid, and I never really took it seriously until people started noticing. I guess it was all the girls in high school that really pushed me into this career. Girls would always ask me to sing for them, and I haven’t been able to shut up ever since.
DROKU: Who encouraged you to start singing and who has been your biggest inspiration as singer, songwriter?
PAUL KIM: I have a true love for music. I literally get physically ill if I am deprived of my favorite music. I just grew up mimicking the artists that were playing on the stereo at my friend’s homes, and I fell in love with R&B/Soul music… My biggest influences musically have always been legends such as Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Prince, and Michael Jackson.
DROKU: What has been your favorite performance so far?
PAUL KIM: I always relish singing the national anthem every year at a Golden State Warriors home game. I have been a die-hard Warriors fans since I was old enough to walk, and to be able to sing at their games in such a treat. Singing my heart out, in front of 20,000 people is a rush that can never be replicated.
DROKU: Do you do music full time or do you have another job?
PAUL KIM: I’ve been lucky enough to do music full time. I’m not a wealthy man by any stretch, but to be able to do what I love for a living is truly a blessing.
DROKU: How do you practice your singing to continue to improve?
PAUL KIM: Honing your craft is so important. Singing is such a stress reliever for me. If I’ve had a bad day, I lock myself in the bedroom, blast a classic record, and sing till I’m sweaty and out of breath. As a singer, you should constantly be trying to improve your range, lung capacity, cleaning up your riffs and runs, and expanding your artistry by immersing yourself in all genres of music.

DROKU: Who would you like to collaborate with that you haven’t yet already?
PAUL KIM: There are dozens of artists, producers, and writers I’d like to work with. Off the top of my head I’d love to sing a hook for Far East Movement, rock a duet with Alicia Keys, and jump on a record produced by Pharrell Williams.
DROKU: You’re music video for “Hero” is currently playing on M-Net, how do you feel?
PAUL KIM: It’s an honor. I put my heart and soul into that record, and the feedback has been so positive. I’m still not used to seeing myself on tv though. Awkward!
DROKU: What are you working on now? (any album, singles or music being released?)
PAUL KIM: The next single is on it’s way shortly! It’s called “You Left Me For That?”, and is completely different than anything I’ve ever done. It was produced and co-written by my good friend David Kater, who has also written for artists like Se7en and Wheesung. I can’t wait to release the music video and show everyone what I’ve been cooking up.
DROKU: We heard you were leaking a new single every Monday, why did you decide to give out free downloads to all your followers?
PAUL KIM: I was going through my catalogue of songs one day, and realized I had written and recorded more than 100 songs. There were certain records I had been saving for the album, but I just felt like they needed to be shared with the world immediately. What’s the point of having songs I’ve written from the heart if they’re just going to sit in my iTunes? So I decided to give them away for free. I can always make more records…
DROKU: Out off all your singles you have revealed to the public, which is your favorite and why?
PAUL KIM: I think my upcoming single “You Left Me For That?” is definitely my favorite. It is a culmination of my favorite types of music fused into one record. It basically embodies me as an artist. My fans are gonna initially be a little shocked to see that the new single isn’t an urban R&B record. I still left my soulful flavor on it, but it’s totally different than anything I’ve ever done.
DROKU: Why did you try out for American Idol? How far did you expect to get and how far did you get?
PAUL KIM: I tried out for AI with very little expectations. It was such an amazing experience that opened the door for me in this industry. I hate to sound pessimistic, but I knew America would never vote for an Asian to win the show, but I did the best I could and I loved every minute of it.
DROKU: How was your experience with “MBC Star Audition”?
PAUL KIM: It was awesome. I gained a whole new fan base in Korea, and I am grateful to MBC for that. Korea is the motherland, and I want so badly to be accepted by my brothers and sisters in Korea. I am so proud of my Korean heritage, and it felt so good to be able to show what I could do on a national platform.
DROKU: How was that audition different then your ‘American Idol” audition?
PAUL KIM: It honestly wasn’t very different in terms of the process. I was a nervous wreck during American Idol though. For the MBC audition I didn’t have an ounce of nerves. I had already been through such an experience and it was easy as pie.
DROKU: What do you want to accomplish in your music career? Why?
PAUL KIM: I just want to make timeless art. Immortality can be reached through your legacy. When I’m gone, I would love for my music to keep my memory alive. I would love for someone to hear one of my records years from now and smile because it makes them reminisce over a past experience of theirs. Somewhere along the way the music industry forgot about creating classic records that would stand the test of time. Nowadays all you hear is annoying repetitive songs that you hear 3 times and you’re already sick of the record. That’s not the kind of artist I want to be. I’m not out to make a quick buck. I want to live forever through my music…

DROKU: At what age did you start singing and writing music?
ALFA G: 13. But I started music at 5.
DROKU: How did you start as an artist?
ALFA: I just stumbled into it. I wanted to learn songs by my favorite artists and bands, and then realized I couldn’t sound like them. So I decided to try writing my own songs and to just sound like myself.
DROKU: Who encouraged you to start singing and who has been your biggest inspiration as a singer, songwriter?
ALFA: I don’t know if anyone necessarily encouraged me to start singing. I was always more of an instrumentalist as a child. It just came to me, and my family members were my first supporters.
DROKU: How would you describe your music to your listeners?
ALFA: A friend of mine once coined the term “hydraulics for the heart” to describe my music. That’s fairly accurate. Another is “floetry” – a term I used a long time ago. I think it’s kind of cheesy now, but it comes from me writing songs based [on] the poetry I’d write.
DROKU: Who do you wish to collaborate in the future?
ALFA: Melissa Polinar – who’s become a good friend in the last year – and I have talked about doing a collab, but we’ve never been able to be in the same place long enough.

DROKU: You participated in Kollaboration Acoustic 3. What was it like performing on the same stage as AJ Rafael, Megan Lee, Mike Isberto, Gabe Bondoc and others?
ALFA: At the time, it was such a new experience for me. I hadn’t been out to L.A. too many times yet, and it was the first time meeting people like AJ, Mike, Gerald [Ko], Jinah and Megan (I think I met Gabe back in MN in 2008), so it was just fun to hang out with cool, talented new friends.
DROKU: At Kollaboration Acoustic 3, you won the grand prize with Mike Isberto. How did it feel?
ALFA: Very awesome.
DROKU: You and Mike Isberto entered Kollaboration 10 as a duo – how did you decide to enter together?
ALFA: I think they had told us we either had to compete for the spot or go in together. We thought going in together would be a fun challenge. Plus we wouldn’t have to fight over who got to go.
DROKU: What was some difficulty you faced while practicing with Mike and also how did it feel performing with somebody else instead of a solo?
ALFA: The distance was the biggest challenge; Skype and iChat both have delays on their signal. But luckily, I was in LA doing another show just two weeks before Kollab 10, so we spent hours working on our original song.
DROKU: Have you participated in any major auditions?
ALFA: Yes. American Idol and The Voice.
DROKU: Are you working on anything at the moment?
ALFA: Yes, I’m writing right now.

DROKU: What is your favorite song you have ever written?
ALFA: I can’t even choose! I think of them all as my children who I love equally.
DROKU: What has been your favorite performance and why?
ALFA: I’ve had a lot of really fun performances – it’s hard to pick. I guess since we’ve been mentioning Kollab, I will say that KNY 2010 was a lot of fun. I played at the Highline Ballroom and it was just me and my bassist on his upright bass. We played “Isabelle,” which is a French-English song. And everything just vibed great with the audience (and we won 2nd).
DROKU: Do you do music full time?
ALFA: Right now it’s full time. I had been working as a journalist for about three years in NJ, and I just moved to LA a few weeks ago.
DROKU: What do you want to accomplish in your music career?
ALFA: I want it to become a sustainable career. I’m fairly realistic; I know not everyone can become a big “star,” but I think the fulfillment doesn’t lie in trying to be the next Lady Gaga. It’s in molding a career that can last and lets you stay true to yourself. I think that goes for any career. Not just music. And of course, I’m a Libra, so I’m all about balance, balance, balance!

“Music bonds us together,” says Nicky Lee, member of Korean American R&B group Aziatix. “It doesn’t matter about where we go or the language barrier.”
Lee, and his group members Eddie Shin and Flowsik have each worked independently in the music industry before being introduced to one another by mutual friend, Jae Chong.
Chong, a member of the very first Korean R&B group “Solid,” has produced tracks for popular Asian artists such as Van Ness Wu, Uhm Jung Hwa, Coco Lee, BoA, Kim Gun Mo, JYJ and more.
In 2002, Chong began working with Lee. Now he is Aziatix’s full-time producer.
“They are a great group of guys,” says Chong. “When I brought them together, I didn’t want it to feel like a military camp; I wanted them to have a good time.”
The music industry can be brutal, says Chong, but his vision for the group is to represent what Asian artists can be overseas.
“Solid was basically formed the same way Aziatix did, by meeting each other at church and then forming our group,” he says.
Lee was based in Taiwan, promoting his work as an actor, singer and songwriter in the Mandarin market for over seven years. Shin also debuted as a singer and songwriter in Korea in 2005 and has worked with some of Korea’s biggest groups, including six-member male group Beast (B2ST) and female quintet 4Minute.
During South Korea’s G20 Summit, Shin even took part in a joint project featuring some of Korea’s most prominent celebrities – IU, 2PM’s Junsu, SNSD’s Seohyun, Beast’s JunHyung, MBLAQ’s GO and many more – co-writing and vocal directing the “G20 Song.”

Rapper Flowsik, on the other hand, comes from the underground music scene in the States, and has even collaborated with Ice-T, and was featured in Yoochun’s (of Korean group JYJ) solo “I Love You.”
Flowsik met Chong through Facebook, who in turn introduced Flowsik to Lee. The pair met Shin playing basketball, they say, laughing as they reminisce. With Shin being a fan of Solid, Chong soon envisioned that the three men would form into the group Aziatix.
The name “Aziatix” is the brainchild of Chong. Even though their roots are all based in Korea—or Asia in general—they still come from very different backgrounds and cultures, he explains.
“Our sound is trying to find a balance between the East and the West, and be up-to-date with the pop market of today,” Shin chimes in.
With that in mind, the members want to take Aziatix as far as they can, in order to touch the upcoming generations and become role models across the world. Of course, they plan on taking Asia and the United States by storm. The members would love to visit countries like Egypt, Jerusalem, and even Turkey.
In fact, Aziatix held their first performance in April in New York at the Circle Club.
“It was good to see all the new, and familiar, faces,” says Flowsik.
Aziatix impressed the crowd with their fresh fusion of R&B and hip hop, and they are booking shows throughout the U.S. Aziatix also had their first gig in Korea, which was at the “Jisan Valley Rock Festival.”
In addition, the trio releases a full album “Nocturnal” which debuted on top 10 on R&B/Soul iTunes charts; we even get to see a new look and hear a new sound. Their vision for the months to come is to make fresh music for their fans all over the world.
Chong tells us that he gives the members freedom to write their own lyrics and music for songs like “Whatcha Know About Us,” “Cold,” and “Go” featured on their first self-titled EP.
Their lyrics, they say, are based on daily life, with songs such as “Whatcha Know About us,” which tackles themes like perseverance, goals, and striving to succeed together and getting through obstacles to make you stronger.
“At the end of the day, you need your family and friends, and we try to encourage each other,” explains Flowsik.
Describing their sound as “happy,” the members say they want fans to receive positive energy listening to their songs. They want to send a message to their listeners about love, dreams and the happiness of pursuing success.
With the message of love to their Korean and international fans, otherwise known as Aziaddicts, they say: “We love you; you’re all special and beautiful.”
