Summer Hairstyles

GIRLS:
The possibilities are endless with this summer’s staple hairstyle: the fishtail. Celebrities like Rihanna, Ashley Tisdale and others are sporting this breezy, laid-back look. Add a creative twist to your plaits by wearing your fishtail to the side, or try a cascading waterfall braid. And you’re not limited to just one braid. Feel free to experiment by starting your braid closer to the crown of your forehead (incorporating your bangs) and ending in a messy bun, or try adding accessories like a headband or flower.
GET THE LOOK:
1. Separate the hair you want to braid into two equal sections.
2. Select a small piece of hair from underneath and outside of one section and cross it over to the opposite section, combining it with the inside of that section.
3. Select a small piece of hair from the opposite section (outside and underneath) and cross it over to the original section, combining it.
4. Continue this process, alternating between each section, until you reach the end of your hair.
5. Secure with a hair tie.
6. Pull on the braid to loosen it and make it even.

GUYS:
With summer finally in full blast, gentlemen it’s time you get out of your teeny bopper phase and clean yourself up. With maturity come fresh style, and fresh hair. So grow that faux hawk out or shave it off because for summer, it’s all about looking clean, simple and fresh. Stick to the classics, and you’ll be fine, fellas.
Rocking a clean buzzed head with nice clean sides will never go out of trend. It’s a staple for every man on the run, but make sure you have a nicely shaped head to pull this off (nothing hurts more than seeing a dude running around with a buzz cut with a flat crown). If that’s not the case, don’t get an even buzz all over, but fade or taper so there’s more length in the crown area of your head.
The quiff, pompadour, and flat tops are making a comeback, but in an entirely new age era. No longer is it necessary to rock the zoot suit or go to the lindy hop to rock this hairstyle. Whether your personal style is urban, classic, or hipster, the quiff works for everyone — you just have to learn how to rock it. So walk tall and spray that pomp down!
GET THE LOOK:
1. For us Asian guys with our rather coarse and thick hair, make sure your hair is towelled dry, and not soaking.
2. Use a quarter size of any light pomade, gel, or texturizing pastes (like TIGI’s Manipulator or TIGI’s “B” for Men Pure Texture Paste), and really emulsify it. Make sure the product goes between your fingers and fingertips for styling later
3. Run your hands through your hair and do your best to get even coverage of product—really work the mid shaft to the tips of your hair.
4. Create a side part with a comb where you feels suits you best, but make sure it’s not too intense; heavy side parts were so last year. Slick the rest of the hair to the other side, and the back towards your crown to the back (just make sure your not rocking a bump-it look)!
5. Using a denman brush or a small round brush, blow-dry your hair in the direction your hair falls after the part. When it comes to the pomp, lift the front hair up with the brush and to the side with the majority of the hair. Do this until it lifts and stays on its own (your hair should still look like a mess, this only serves as a base).
6. Lastly, use another product with a nice hold to lock it down (try Hollywood’s LAYRITE deluxe pomade or American Crew’s pomade). For the slick and more defined look, stick with a liquid-based gel product, and for the messy I-woke-up-and-threw-this-together look, stick with a paste product (such as TIGI Pure Texture Molding Paste). With a nickel-sized amount of product, emulsify and smooth out any kinks and unruly hair. Lock the shape in to where you want it and just clean it up.
7. Spray down whatever fly-aways you have, and necessary, hairspray that sucker down!
