What We’re Watching: NBC’s “The Voice”

With all the talent competitions on TV, we weren’t sure if we were ready for another “American Idol,” “The Sing-Off” or “Rock Star.” So we were surprised when NBC’s “The Voice” grabbed our attention.
We especially love Dia Frampton, the 23-year-old Utah native on country star Blake Shelton’s team. We’ve been cheering for her since she passed the blind auditions with her rendition of Colbie Caillat’s “Bubbly” and survived a battle round singing The Supreme’s hit “You Can’t Hurry Love.” Frampton also earned high praise from the judges – as well as voter popularity – for her haunting and original performance of Kanye West’s “Heartless.”
Of course, Frampton is no stranger to the stage. The half-Korean, half-Dutch singer-songwriter, along with her sister Meg, has been performing together since 2004. They released their first album as Meg & Dia in 2005 and their band was signed with Warner Bros. Records until last year, with several of their songs penned by Frampton. They have several tours under their belt, including the Warped Tour in 2006 and 2007, and their music videos have earned airtime on MTV.
According to “The Salt Lake Tribune,” Frampton was reluctant to enter a televised singing competition and only agreed in order to placate a nagging friend. Despite her reservations, Frampton has become a forerunner on “The Voice.” And who knows? She may even walk away with that $100,000 prize and recording contract. Keep tuning in Tuesday nights at 8 PM to root (and vote) for Dia.
